Introducing 3D Wind Streamlines for AI: Revolutionize Early Design with Orbital Stack

Orbital Stack, along with the experts at RWDI and Neural Concept, is proud to announce its newest, game-changing feature: 3D Wind Streamlines for AI Simulations. This feature will bring an unprecedented level of insight to an already robust, rapid environmental analysis toolset.

Understanding AI Wind Streamlines

AI Streamlines deliver a brilliant, highly visual representation of how wind flows through 3D space. By clearly depicting the movement, relative speed, and unique patterns of wind flow around developments, AI Streamlines offer Orbital Stack software users even greater early design insights.

Previously, the ability to observe wind flow patterns in 3D space was only offered on traditional CFD simulations. Like Orbital Stack’s CFD data, the development of the AI feature builds on the extensive industry expertise of RWDI , based on their extensive historical project data originally tested in their world-renown wind tunnels. The data is used to create hyper-detailed volume meshes generated and refined in key areas of the development to bring you the wind data with the most value to early design.

AI Streamlines now provides users access to over 1 million points of wind data from a standard 8 wind directions in the higher-speed AI simulations. These simulations can be added to new projects along with other features, like daylighting, outdoor thermal comfort, and pedestrian level wind analysis, in minutes.

Key Benefits and Features

With access to deeper analysis from a single AI simulation, Orbital Stack users can now unlock more robust early design insights that allow for better decision making when designing projects.

Clearly Visualize Unique Wind Effects

The addition of 3D Wind Streamlines to a standard AI simulation in Orbital Stack provides an additional layer of understanding as to why certain wind effects are occurring in urban environments.

With our new AI streamlines, you can quickly identify the source of any hotspots that you are seeing, making it easier to make design decisions”, says Jan Bergstrom, the General Manager of Orbital Stack. These wind hotspots, such as channeling through buildings or downdrafts caused by larger towers, can be clearly visualized along with the resulting effects at ground level.

By understanding both the effect at ground level of local wind conditions and the causes of these wind flows, architects and engineers can begin to harness wind and make small but impactful changes to manage and manipulate flows to suit the needs of their outdoor spaces.

Make Better Informed Decisions

Orbital Stack’s features, including AI Streamlines, allows designers to make informed decisions suitable for their project as early as possible. It can be applied to all design stages.

At the bidding or concept stages, it can inspire decisions around various architectural elements. Modifications like tower setbacks, podiums, tower shapes, corner articulations, and colonnades/arcades, can have the most influence on the flow patterns of wind around a development and can be planned more effectively with deeper insights.

If designers are further along in the process, or more limited in their ability to make major changes to an overall development based on timelines or budget constraints, AI Streamlines can be used to visualize the effect of elements that can still have a major impact on wind mitigation. Such elements include glass barriers, canopies, and recessed entrances.

AI Streamlines, along with other tools provided by Orbital Stack, allow for the accurate representation of the effects of microclimate mitigation in minutes. This leads to buildings that work with the surrounding environment rather than against it.

Tell a Compelling Story

Not only do AI Streamlines compare mitigation strategies, wind directions, and seasons, they also help tell the story of the development to stakeholders and clients alike.

The ability to effectively represent the impact of design choices in a visually meaningful way in client presentations and design competitions cannot be overstated, as wind flow is often unpredictable and misunderstood. This feature removes the mystery of how wind will behave and clearly shows each nuanced flow pattern.

By clearly articulating the foresight given to the local environment, designers gain the edge needed to have their designs and ideas stand out.
